Seeking a vacation to the land down under? Why not consider exploring its Northen territory by including Darwin in your itinerary? Come March 2025, Qantas will be adding seats from Singapore to Darwin on its newest Airbus 220-300.
This will be the first time Qantas is operating its Airbus A220 out of Australia, and the first time an Airbus A220 will be operating in Changi Airport! Travellers looking for a new experience should keep an eye out for this flight.
Be wowed by a brand new flight experience
The first Airbus A220-300 was added to Qantas’ fleet in December 2023 and took off for its first commercial flight on 1 March 2024. The first aircraft is named “Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa” and sports a special livery as one of the six aircraft under Qantas’ Flying Art Series. The artwork was designed by leading Indigenous Australian design agency Balarinji, in collaboration with First Nation artists and their families.
Onboard, there are 137 seats with 10 Business seats in a 2-2 configuration, and 127 Economy seats in a 2-3 configuration. You’ll be glad to know that passengers in both cabins will have access to free Wi-Fi, allowing you to stay connected and enjoy streaming content to your own device using the Qantas Entertainment App.
In addition, the seats in both Business and Economy Class feature dual USB A and C charging ports, allowing your devices to be fully charged without wondering if you have the right cable on hand. The Business Class seat also features an additional wireless charging pad for additional convenience.
The inflight experience is also improved with the Airbus A220 having the largest windows of any single aisle aircraft, making the cabin look wider and more spacious. Plus, the overhead lockers are about 20% larger, providing plenty of room for passengers’ carry-on luggage. A noise reduction of up to 50% versus previous aircraft generations also means that the cabin is quieter, allowing you to have more peace and quiet during your flight.
Fun Fact: The ICAO type code of the Airbus A220-300 is “BCS3”, which doesn’t follow the typical Airbus naming convention (e.g., A320, A359). This is because the Airbus A220 was originally manufactured by Bombardier, and it was designated as the CSeries 300 before Airbus became a majority stakeholder and rebranded the CSeries programme in 2018. Its smaller cousin, the Airbus A220-100, has the type code “BCS1” as it was originally designated as the CSeries 100.
