The designer is also able to create bespoke designs for those who want to wear something that's one of a kind. Fashion designer Priscilla Shunmugam of Ong Shunmugam is best known for bringing a contemporary spin to traditional Asian clothing like the cheongsam (one-piece Chinese dress) and the kimono (Japanese garment). Traditional textiles like batik (cloth that has had wax and dyes applied) and lace are often used in the designs. The result – statement pieces that offer insights into the rich heritage of the region. Her atelier in Holland Village features a glass window looking into the workroom so customers can have a glimpse into the world of the seamstresses as they cut, sew and embroider the designer's pieces.
