February is the month of love. But beyond Valentine’s Day, there’s no excuse not to inject some extra bit of romance into your love life, wherever in Singapore you plan on having a romantic date.
And if you’re stuck on romantic date ideas, fret not! There is no need to Google for the best places for romantic dinners because it does not have to revolve solely around romantic dinners (restaurants are likely all booked up anyway). Valentine’s Day or not, here is a list of some exciting, unconventional and fresh ideas to surprise your date.
1. A smashing good time at The Fragment Room
Who says that dates need to be all romantic and lovey-dovey? Sometimes, you and your partner just want to vent about all the things that have been pretty stressful in your lives recently.
At The Fragment Room (S$75 for two), couples can quite literally smash their frustrations away together to get closer in collective catharsis.
Don some protective gear, grab a bat and wreck some cups, plates, bottles and electronics in a soundproof room where anything goes for 40 minutes.
It is a great idea for couples both old and new — those in the former will have an unconventional and exciting date to look forward to while it’s a great way to break (or rather smash) the ice for those in the latter.
All that emotional release will work up quite an appetite. So we recommend dropping by The Boiler @ Howard Road nearby, where couples can continue smashing apart crabs and shellfish in a sumptuous seafood boil feast.
Address: 490 MacPherson Rd, Singapore 368198
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday — 12:00pm to 10:00pm
2. Smell like heaven in a perfume blending workshop
Instead of scouring Singapore for perfumes or scents that trigger nostalgia, why not curate your own customised perfume gift set for each other?
Oo La Lab is where you and your date can create personalised signature fragrances by doing a bit of chemistry together (S$98 to S$156 a person) in a perfume blending workshop.
Work with an Oo La mixologist to design your own scents with thousands of olfactory combinations to choose from.
Expect to be overwhelmed in a multi-sensory experience with your loved one while learning how to create a signature scent that can match each other’s character and mood — a test of how much you know each other! Plus, it is always good to have your partner be reminded of you every time they dab on their customised perfume.
Looking to reset your senses afterwards? Tuck into some Indonesian cuisine nearby at IndoChili along Zion Road, where the rich, spice-filled likes of Ayam Panggang Padang and Soto Betawi await.
Address and opening hours: Delta House, Alexandra Rd, #02-04, 159919. Visit its website to view available slots.
3. A picnic and a stroll at Changi Beach Park
Need something more down to earth for some quality time together? Having a chill picnic date in Singapore is easy to plan, especially with all the outdoor spots in the East. Afterall, there is always the option of having an idyllic picnic under the wispy trees of Changi Beach.
Don some comfortable outfits and find a spot near the Changi Point Ferry Terminal, where couples can watch the bumboats float by. Pack a nice homemade meal in some sleek food storage containers (or buy some hawker fare from Changi Village nearby), and you can have a rustic picnic date under the bright open skies. You could even pack an alcohol gift set to establish the mood for the rest of the date.
Afterwards, immerse yourselves in the seaside ambience with a leisurely stroll around Changi Boardwalk to soak in the views of the coastline. Be sure to time the journey just right so you can start from Creek Walk and end at Sunset Walk (it should take about 45min to over an hour, depending on your pace) for an unobstructed view across the waters to see the sun go down.
Cap the evening at The Seagrill for a romantic seaside dinner, where cocktails, wine and seafood platters await — you and your date should find no issues at all polishing everything off after that long walk.
Address: 51 Lor Bekukong, Singapore 499172
4. Glamp it up in tents
If something fun and swanky is what you are after, find it all with glamping.
Adding luxury, style and fun to camping, forget about the typical dating places in Singapore. Have a full-fledged tent all ready for you to sweep your valentine off his or her feet. Combining the best of what the outdoors can offer with the intimacy of a romantic indoor getaway, glamping is the perfect sweet escape to experience with your partner. Spend the night in a cozy glamping tent and take in the spectacular view of the night stars or gaze at the crashing beach waves at popular picnic spots like East Coast Park.
One of the most popular Valentine’s Day glamping experiences in Singapore has got to be Wondrous Glamping located at East Coast Park. Offering Glamping packages starting from S$230 for 2 pax, glam out in a 4m canvas bell tent right by the coast and enjoy the cool sea breeze as you lay in a queen-sized air mattress. Get the date started by checking in at 2:00pm, and simply check out at any time before 10:00am the next day.
But that is not all! They even offer Glampnic packages starting from S$290 for those looking for a picnic-cum-glamping experience.
Address: East Coast Park Area D, Singapore 449876
5. A cinema for two at Muvee Space
Like watching movies in cinemas, but also want to have the intimacy of a private date? Make date planning easy and do both at Muvee Space, a boutique cinema that you can book for an audience of two.
Experience some VIP treatment as well with complimentary snacks and refreshments (including popcorn chicken and lychee drinks) served by your side.
Muvee Space does not compromise on the cinematic quality either, with 150-inch widescreens and sounds blasting in via a Dolby Atmos 7.3.2 surround sound system in an acoustically treated room.
Bookings can be made for 2-hour and 3-hour slots at S$78 and S$117 respectively, but there is an option to book out the cinema for 8 hours at S$299 should you want to spend your day with a romantic movie marathon.
Granted, the cinema is located in the industrial district of Ubi, that does not mean there are no romantic dining places around. Located close by is Knots Café and Living, a furniture showroom that also doubles as a fancy cafe with tonnes of delectable options, including pasta, burgers, salads, pizza and ice cream waffles to share.
Address: 61 Ubi Road 1,Oxley Bizhub 1, #01-16, Singapore 408727
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday — 2:00pm to 10:00pm
6. Sail away into the sunset on a dinner cruise
What better way to keep the romance alive than sailing away together into the sunset? Here is your chance to do so aboard Asia’s only luxury tall ship — a modern superyacht that will not look out of place in a Pirates of the Caribbean flick. The perfect idea for the annual anniversary date or a one-off extravagant gift for your sweetheart, who would not want to spend a couple of hours on an open-air breezy deck?
If you’re willing to splurge on an unforgettable evening, set off on The Royal Albatross with your partner for a voyage in the open sea while enjoying a sumptuous 4-course dinner (S$225 each) served on your own private table on deck.
They currently have a Valentine’s Day dinner cruise. The two-and-a-half-hour journey begins from the yacht’s own private berth at Resorts World Sentosa, where it will sail past Sentosa and through Singapore’s Southern coastline before making its way back. Both the Valentine’s Day Sunset Cruise and Valentine’s Day City Lights Cruise (S$395 per pax) comes with a specially curated 5-course dinner menu, coupled with free-flow beverages.
In between, you and your date will catch the gorgeous beaches, city skyline and a gorgeous sunset you will not be able to see anywhere else on the mainland in the golden hour.
To make things extra special, you could always opt to add flowers and gifts to the package, as well as a chance to take the helm for a moment if you’re feeling the Titanic vibes.
Address and opening hours: Visit the Royal Albatross Superyacht website for details on their packages.
7. Take a nature walk at reservoirs and parks
Calling all nature lovers! A romantic date does not have to a fancy dinner or a long walk on the beach with hands intertwined. Switching things up by walking hand in hand through lush forests as you bump into monitor lizards is a wonderful way for couples to reconnect with nature and rekindle their love for each other too! Hike up trails or conquer suspension bridges — that is what we call the height of romance!
For couples who plan on trudging through mangrove swamps or tranquil parks together, explore three of the best gifts of nature — Hindhede Nature Park, Hampstead Wetlands Park and MacRitchie Nature Trail and Reservoir Park. Doubling as some of the best picnic spots in Singapore, these spots are rarely bustling with massive crowds like the other typical romantic dating places in Singapore. How romantic!
Beyond Valentine’s Day, you can show love and affection in a myriad of ways — and there is certainly a tonne of cheap date ideas in Singapore. Now that you have more than a handful of romantic date ideas, there is no excuse not to have an unforgettable day out with your partner!
