There’s a certain magic in stumbling upon an affordable yet romantic restaurant, a hidden gem that feels like it was waiting just for you and your partner. Warm lighting casting delicate shadows across the table, the aroma of freshly prepared dishes, the hum of gentle music weaving its way through air, can put minds at ease and kindle the right emotions.
Not many of these places are in the glitzy guides or splashed across social media, but may be tucked away in a quiet corner—down a historic street, beside a sleepy park or overlooking a tranquil waterfront. Their charm lies not just in their bang-for-your-buck value, but in how they transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating an atmosphere where love feels as light as laughter.
And small touches like candlelit tables, chic decor and kind service are what makes these memorable meals unforgettable. A shared dessert becomes an intimate memory and shooting the breeze becomes engrossing discourse. Here are a few restaurants in Singapore where you can enjoy a pocket of beauty, warmth and connection without the weight of a hefty bill.
Up to $50/pax
1. Alice Boulangerie
Perfect for: Couples who like creative and delicious dishes
Treat your partner to a blend of artistry and gastronomy in Alice Boulangerie, where exquisite flavours and craftsmanship whisks one away to an epicurean wonderland.
If you’re going there for breakfast, try the Shakshuka with Sausage or Alice Big Breakfast. We also love their Alice Shrimp Paste Fried Chicken and Otak Prawn Croquette, which are delicious odes to Singaporean cuisine. If you’re in the mood for seafood, we recommend the Seared Foie Gras Toast, Atlantic Halibut & Chips, and the Pan Seared Wild Barramundi.
We’d be remiss to not mention that this restaurant makes great lasagne too—Alice Beef Lasagna made a lasting impression on us that lingered long after it was digested. Fans of baked goods can also relish a range of sweet and savoury croissants, danishes and fruit cakes here.

Start with its signature tacos, which are a perfect balance of nuance and texture, stuffed with everything from angus beef to deep fried soft shell crab. There’s even a crispy tempeh option for vegetarians. Afterwards, move on to mains like Hottie Prawnstar, which marries chilli padi and parmesan with huge tiger prawns. If you’re hungry, try the Choppy Chow, which comprises chicken, streaky bacon, blue cheese, avocado and cage-free eggs.
A handcrafted concoction from behind the bar, like the Nighthawks (a spicy whiskey concoction) or Manzanilla (gin, Americano, bitters and manzanilla), will complement these dynamic flavours well.
