While you're out enjoying all that Singapore has to offer, remember to observe good hygiene measures and practice safe distancing. Stay safe!
Do you remember the first burger youâve ever eaten? Chances are that it's from McDonald's. As much as we enjoy the classic McChicken or McSpicy, sometimes we deserve a fancier version. And thereâs nothing quite like tucking into a thick, mouth-watering burger; one thatâs jam-packed with savoury ingredients. If youâre looking for something unique to do this weekend, why not go on a hunt for the best burger?
Thankfully, Singapore is home to several burger joints that are loaded with these juicy, comforting treats. Weâve gathered some of the best burgers in the East region that are worth sinking your teeth into! Keep your smartphones handy for that shot on your Instagram feed!
1. Burger & Lobster
Youâve likely heard of Burger & Lobster. It is, after all, an internationally-acclaimed UK chain that has since found its way to our shores, with Jewel Changi Airport being its first outlet to be opened in Singapore back in 2019. As its name suggests, this chain is one thatâs laser-focused on perfecting two main products on their menu â burgers and lobsters.
For meat lovers, weâd recommend trying their Smoked BBQ Burger (S$19). Itâs served with a Nebraska beef patty glazed with BBQ sauce, topped with snazzy ingredients like smoked cheddar, maple glazed bacon, kale, tomato and balsamic onion jam. Sounds heavenly, doesnât it?
For veggie lovers, opt for The Wholesome (S$19.50) instead! This vegan burger is prepared using a crisp-fried chickpea patty. Served on a multigrain bun, it comes with a host of nutritious veggies like eggplant âbaconâ, kale, lettuce, onion and smoked vegan cheese. With the number of ingredients packed into this burger, youâd be surprised by how filling it can be without even a hint of meat.
Of course, it isnât all burgers at this joint. Other must-try dishes include their signature Atlantic lobsters. To get the best of both worlds, weâd recommend getting the combo for two. The Original, priced at S$105, comes with two Mayfair Burgers, one original lobster, a portion of fries, house salad and two non-alcoholic drinks.
Address:Â Jewel Changi Airport #05 - 203, Singapore 819666
Opening hours:Â Sunday to Thursday â 11:00am to 9:30pm, Friday to Saturday â 11:00am to 10:00pm
2. Bergs Gourmet Burgers
Hereâs another great spot in the East to get your burger game on: Bergs Gourmet Burgers. Their extensive menu includes a variety of options that are packed with plenty of goodness â from oozing sauces to melted cheese, itâs an amalgamation of rich flavours when it comes to the burgers here.
This joint serves burgers with adorable sounding names too. Ms Piggy (S$17.50 for small, S$20.50 for large), for instance, comes with a juicy beef patty thatâs made from scratch. Itâs accompanied by crispy streaks of bacon and Bergâs specialty sauce; then further topped with the usuals like melted cheese, tomato and lettuce.
If that isnât enough to curb your hunger, consider completing the fast food feast with an additional S$5.50 for a basketful of chips and iced lemonade! Alternatively, the BFB (S$23.50 for small, $27.50 for large) is a great option for those with larger appetites. This is essentially a premium offering that comes with not one, but two prime wagyu beef patties.
All in all, this joint is certainly worth a visit â especially on days when youâre feeling extra ravenous for an upscale yet hearty burger.
Address: 45 East Coast Rd, Singapore 428765
Opening hours: Monday to Thursday â 11:00am to 10:00pm, Friday to Saturday â 11:00am to 11:00pm, Sunday - 11:00am to 10:00pm
3. Shake Shack
This burger joint needs no introduction. Shake Shack should be one thatâs familiar to most of us by now. Itâs a crowd favourite â most evident in the long wave of queues witnessed at Jewel Changi Airport when it first arrived (and before other Shake Shack locations sprouted across the island).
Get your fill with some of the popular choices on the Shake Shack menu! The ShackBurger (S$9.80) and SmokeShack (S$10.90) have been hailed as must-eats among regulars. These cheeseburgers are made with freshly ground 100% Angus beef, though they come with different toppings. The former is a no-frills classic with lettuce, tomato and signature âShackSauceâ, while the latter comes with an applewood-smoked bacon and cherry peppers.
The ShackStack (S$14.30) is an excuse for those feeling extra indulgent â this burger combines both cheese and portobello mushroom patties for you to savour more lip-smacking goodness. Burgers aside, shakes and frozen custards are popular choices too. Classic flavours (S$6.90) range from vanilla to chocolate, salted caramel, peanut butter and more.
For those with a sweet tooth, consider sipping on the Singapore exclusive Pandan Shake (S$7.80).
Address: Jewel Changi Airport #02-256, Singapore 819666
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday â 10:30am to 10:00pm
4. Wolf Burger
Wolf Burger is a humble homegrown joint notable for its affordable prices and scrumptious burgers. Over the years, it has increasingly become a popular choice among burger and fast food enthusiasts.
If youâre on the hunt for cheap and good food in the east, youâre in luck. Despite having most of their items priced below S$10, flavours certainly go beyond what youâll find in average fast-food chains here. Weâd recommend the signature Wolf Burger (S$9.90) for all first-timers â a classic ground beef patty wrapped between house-made sesame seed buns.
Sounds basic, yet it tastes anything but basic. These premium-quality beef patties are seared to perfection while retaining the juices within, unlike the dry patties found in fast food chains.
Better yet, double that satisfaction by wolfing down The Alpha (S$14.90). This oneâs a hefty burger with double the patties and double the cheese. Aside from beef options, thereâs also their Buttermilk Fried Chicken (S$9.90) burger! Crunch on a fried boneless chicken thigh served with salted egg mayo sauce and homemade slaw â a unique take thatâs equal parts tasty and addictive.
For an additional $3, youâll get to upgrade your meal for a side of fries and a drink.
Address: 10 Tampines North Drive 4, #01-05, Singapore 528553
Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday â 11:00am to 9:00pm, Friday to Saturday â 11:00am to 09:30pm
5. Burger Frites
Located on the ground floor of a spacious shophouse in Joo Chiat, Burger Frites is a cosy joint in the East that has earned a reputation for its quality hamburgers since its opening in 2019. In fact, itâs opened by the same team behind the popular steakhouse, Braseiro. The two establishments are only one road away from each other!
At this joint, brioche buns are the stars. Lightly toasted with butter, these buns help add a soft, pillowy texture to the burger. Plus, itâs great at soaking up all that juicy drippings from the patty. Unlike some other places, The Angus Beef Patty Cheese Burger (S$17++) at Burger Frites doesn't come with an overload of fancy ingredients or sauces. Rather, it comprises a sizable portion of beef patty that comes with a hefty percentage of fattiness.
Those looking for chicken options will be glad to know that the joint offers a Crispy Chicken Burger (S$16++) on their menu too. Itâs unlike what youâll find in other places though â rather than the usual thick chicken thigh cutlet, this burger comes with four strips of chicken tenders that are stacked above each other.
Do keep a lookout for their Jalapeño Cream Cheese Balls (S$8) too. These crispy fried orbs are tiny bites stuffed with cream cheese and slivers of jalapeño, making for great sides to the burgers and fries, a worthy addition to your fast food meal.
Address: 340 Joo Chiat Rd, Singapore 427592
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday â 12:00am to 10:00pm
6. VeganBurg
Contrary to popular belief, not all fast food equates to greasy junk food. VeganBurg is a plant-based burger joint with offerings that are not only nutritious but equally flavourful when matched up to its meaty competitors!
The star of any burger has got to be the patties, and VeganBurg has got that down despite being meat-free. Patties here are made from 100% plant-based ingredients such as soya beans and mushrooms. Theyâre also free from any genetically modified organisms (GMO) and preservatives. Isnât this the best way to make both your body and the planet happy?
Not only that â their ciabatta, rye and wholemeal burger buns are made from organic ingredients and infused with essential nutrients like Zinc and Vitamin B12. One of their best sellers is the Tangy Tartar Burger (S$9.90) â itâs very much like a fish burger, except that tofu is used as a protein substitute instead. Another great one to check out is the Smoky BBQ Burger (S$11.90), which utilises a variety of grounded mushrooms for its patty to mimic the look of a beefy cheeseburger.
For an extra taste of sweetness, try the Hawaiian Teriyaki Burger (S$11.90) instead. Its plant-protein patty comes with a pan-grilled pineapple slice drizzled with some delectable Japanese teriyaki sauce. Head to the East this weekend for a bite of guilt-free fast food!
Address: 44 Jalan Eunos, Singapore 419502
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday â 11:30am to 9:00pm
7. Ministry of Burgers
Born from the founders' love for authentic Ramly Burgers, Ministry of Burgers is another halal joint to keep your eyes out for. Burgers here are similar to those you can find at pasar malams, but better. For one, their patties are noticeably thicker. You can expect to find in-house sauces like black pepper, chilli and cheese as well!
One must-have is their gigantic Thunder Burger (S$9.90), which comes with four large patties and a fried egg! Talk about an absolute feast. You even get to customise the monster burger by picking two different kinds of patties among four options: chicken, veggie, beef or fish. Itâs deluxe enough to share with a dining companion!
Address: 1 Pasir Ris Close #01, K101, 519599
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday â 11:00am to 10:00pm
Everyone loves a good burger every now and then, though what makes the perfect burger differs depending on who you ask.
Some might prefer a simple cheeseburger, while others prefer burgers packed with snazzy ingredients. Regardless, thereâs always a burger out there in the East thatâs fit for differing taste buds. With all these burger joints popping up, hereâs your chance to chomp down some divine, layered goodness! Be sure to document your journey discovering these burger delights by snapping a couple of photos with your monopod. Finish off your meal by trying some of the famous ice cream bars.
