Changi Airport has claimed the fifth spot in the Airports Council International (ACI) World’s ranking of the world’s busiest airports for 2023, released on 15 April 2024. It is also the busiest airport in Asia by international passengers, surpassing Istanbul Airport and Incheon International Airport.
Changi Airport’s ranking has risen from ninth place in 2022 and seventh in 2019, to fifth in 2023. It is the first time the airport is ranked among the top five busiest airports since 2013, signalling the international air hub’s strong recovery amid growth in passenger traffic across all regions as travellers eagerly explore the world once again.
Travellers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand and India made up Changi Airport’s top five passenger demographics for 2023. This is reflected in the airport’s busiest routes, with destinations like Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Denpasar (Bali) and Manila dominating the charts.
The Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route is also the world’s busiest international route based on seat capacity in 2023 and consistently over the years, with over 25,000 flights and more than 4 million seats available on this route in 2023.
In 2023, Changi Airport also expanded its reach and city links. It saw three new passenger airlines join the Changi family – Air Macau, Firefly and TransNusa. Additionally, Bhubaneswar (India) and Sanya (China) were added as new passenger city links to its network.
