The latest Don Don Donki store in Singapore has landed in Jewel Changi Airport! Spanning 18,000 square feet (as big as about 20 4-room HDB flats in Singapore) at Basement 1 of Jewel, this is not your ordinary Donki outlet. Nor is it just a massive store. The Jewel outlet houses many new dining options and exclusive products for Don Don Donki fans.
Can’t wait to see the store? Here are some of the things you should check out when you visit. Of course, nothing beats experiencing it on your own, so come join the hype over at Jewel.
1. Find a wide variety of Japanese noms at the food hall
If you always head straight to the sashimi and cooked food section when you enter a Don Don Donki store, we can relate. Who can resist its spread of affordable and hearty Japanese fare? At the newest store in Jewel, there is a food hall dedicated to some of the most popular Japanese food - a heaven for foodies and fans of Japanese cuisine.
There are two new dining concepts at the food hall - Senraku Deli and Agedako Fried Octopus Ball, serving up customised bento sets and takoyakis respectively.
The wide range of dishes you can choose from at Senraku Deli will certainly make it a crowd favourite. Variety is what you get at the stall - you can get to try multiple dishes in a single bento set, affordably priced from S$8.90. Go for the Beef Sukiyaki and Geso Karaage (deep fried squid tentacles) - cooked perfectly and the authentic flavours will transport you back to Japan in an instant. You must not miss out on the takoyakis from Agedako - perfect for sharing among your shopping-at-Donki buddies.
For sushi lovers, there’s SEN SEN Sushi - Don Don Donki’s sushi restaurant brand that gained much popularity when it opened in Hong Kong in 2021. From sashimi to nigiri sushi and maki rolls, you can find your usual sushi fare right in the Don Don Donki food hall. But the quality and freshness of the ingredients is *chef’s kiss*.
Still hungry? Pick up freshly shaped onigiris (Japanese rice balls, usually shaped in a triangular shape) at Tomita Seimai - perfect for a midday snack or fuel for your shopping spree in Jewel.
2. Shop at the Halal section - a first for Don Don Donki
The Don Don Donki store at Jewel features a large Halal section - a first in Singapore. At the Halal section, you will find more than a hundred types of Japanese drinks, noodles, snacks, sauces, cooking ingredients as well as chilled and frozen food items.
Want to zoom in on the most popular items from this section? We’ve got your back. We have checked with the friendly staff in the store and their top picks (also the most popular items) are the organic matcha powder and sweet potato cake. Come check out the wide selection of Halal items in the store and you might find other yummy and unique items for yourself and your friends.
3. Spot all the travel and aviation-themed features within the store
The outlet in Jewel is home to Don Don Donki’s first aviation- and travel-themed store in the world. Nothing is more apt than this unique experience for visitors and travellers at Jewel.
We spotted many aviation-themed decorations and features within the store. Our favourite? The cashiers and self-check out counters resembling check-in counters at airports. It feels like you’re preparing to embark on an adventure to a new destination. In this case - to try out all the different snacks, beauty and health items in your shopping bag.
4. Add to your cart - affordable and authentic products from Don Don Donki’s in-house brand, Jonetsu Kakaku
Shopping for Japanese food, snacks and products in Singapore does not have to be expensive. If you didn’t know, Don Don Donki has an in-house brand that brings you some of the most popular Japanese products at affordable prices.
Look out for the Jonetsu Kakaku brand within the store for the range of products you can add to your cart without burning a hole in your pocket.
There’s a whole aisle of Jonetsu Kakaku-branded food products in the store and you can find green tea bags, drip coffee, snacks, sauces and more - all at very affordable prices.
It doesn’t stop at food items. You can also find household and beauty products in the store that can only be found in Don Don Donki stores, so add them to your cart and replenish your stash at home if you are already an avid user of their products.
5. Have a drink (or more) at the sake bar boasting 40 varieties of sake
Here’s another new feature at this newest Don Don Donki outlet - a dedicated corner for sake lovers. While having a bar within or near the store is not new for Don Don Donki outlets here in Singapore, the one at Jewel houses the widest variety of sake - 40 to be exact.
Whether you’re looking for a full- and rich-bodied Junmai-shu sake or a delicate and light Ginjo-shu served cold, you will be sure to find a few sakes to your liking.
If you are someone who loves to pair your alcoholic drink with food, you can order food from other stalls within the food hall, or grab food items at the delicatessen section of the store.
6. Order the freshest juices freshly squeezed in store
If sake and alcohol are not for you, you must check out the Furu Furu Fruits Parlor section that is located just by the entrance of the store. On top of the premium fruits air flown from Japan on display for shoppers to choose from, you can order freshly-pressed juices here. This is not available at any other Don Don Donki stores in Singapore, so this is something you should check out.
The price of the juices start from S$5.90 - a tad of a premium price tag but worth every sip simply because of how fresh and sweet the fruits are!
7. Find exclusive and beauty items at the large beauty and health section
The beauty and health section in this newest store in Jewel is bigger than what you find at your usual Don Don Donki. This is to cater to travellers who might be looking for any items right before they depart for their holidays, or for shoppers who just can’t have enough skin care and beauty products.
The bath ball section is the most extensive we have seen in a Don Don Donki store. Made popular from social media videos, the bath balls (or bath bombs) from Don Don Donki fizzles when dropped in water and comes with a surprise toy figurine that lights up. On top of Donpen (Don Don Donki’s mascot) bath balls, you can find a wide range of bath balls - from Sanrio characters to Pokémon and corgi ones.
We also spotted an exclusive edition LuLuLun Special Bag which contains a mix of its internationally known beauty face masks. The face mask sheets are made in Japan and the mix of masks within the special bag is inspired from the different locations across Japan - Hokkaido, Yamanashi, Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Okinawa.
Pro-tip: get your hands on these special bags as they are an exclusive edition only available for Don Don Donki stores in Singapore.
8. Stash on travel and travel-sized items
Within the aisles of the store, you will find many travel and travel-sized items - not just to fit the aviation and travel-themed store, but for practical reasons too.
It is a one-stop store for travellers who are looking for their travel essentials, and also for those who are looking to stash on items in this category for their upcoming vacations.
From neck pillows for your long flight and road trips to lip balms and travel-sized containers for your toiletries like shampoo and face wash, you can find all of them within the store. Perfect? Yes we think so too, and a big plus would be the wide selection of Japanese brands available. Some are just so kawaii (cute in Japanese).
Here are the eight things we think you should definitely do and check out at the newest Don Don Donki in town.
