Working and living in fast-paced Singapore can be quite stressful. However, there is no lack of lifestyle and entertainment activities to do in Singapore to relieve stress. Sampling a new restaurant, catching a movie or a play, indulging in retail therapy, or getting a full body massage are popular choices.
But do you know there is a place where you can smash things to your heart’s content? Or dip in a tank that helps you feel completely un-burdened and weightless? Read on to find out more about these unconventional ways to de-stress.
Release pent-up tension with laughter yoga
They say laughter is the best medicine. That’s exactly why laughter yoga was invented. This unique exercise routine fuses yoga breathing exercises with laughter so as to bring more oxygen to your brain and body, thus making you feel energetic and healthy. Regular practice of laughter yoga can improve your immunity and well-being, as you would immediately feel better after laughing.
The Nation of Joy movement runs free monthly laughter yoga sessions in various locations around Singapore; they sometimes include hiking and kite-flying too. Follow Nation of Joy on Facebook for updates on next events!
Smashing objects in a rage room
Have you ever been so annoyed and frustrated that you wish you can smash something? You can do that at The Fragment Room – Singapore’s first rage room.
With full protective gear and a baseball bat, you enter a room with a crate of ceramic plates, glasses and bottles – all for you to smash to your heart’s content. A 30-minute session costs $38. You can also top up for extra tools like crowbars, and other things to smash such as television sets and laptops.

Find your Zen in a sensory deprivation tank
Looking for a quiet place where you can be yourself and clear your mind? Palm Ave Float Club has the perfect place for you.
For 60 minutes, you float in a futuristic-looking pod that is completely dark and silent. Each pod is filled with clean water and 600 kg of Epsom salt, which makes it extremely buoyant, so you don’t need to worry about sinking or drowning. The cover of the pod is not latched, so you can come out anytime if you feel claustrophobic. The feeling of complete weightlessness is so relaxing and rejuvenating, you will feel your stress slowing leaving your body when you leave the pod.
A 60-minute float session starts at $90. Other packages and discounts are available as well.

Learn Ninjutsu – way of the Ninja
Practising martial arts is a great way to relieve stress. If you are still undecided on which martial arts to choose from, why not try out Ninjutsu – the martial arts of Japanese ninjas?
Think of a ninja, and the image conjured is a mysterious figure with purported abilities to walk on water and remain invisible in the face of their enemies. While modern day ninjutsu won’t be teaching you these “superhuman powers”, you’ll get to learn some pretty cool self-defence skills.
You will learn unarmed combat skills, wield swords, and throw “ninja stars” – round wheel-like blades with razor sharp edges. The ones you use for practice are made of wood and rubber.
Children and adult programmes are available at Singapore Ninjutsu martial arts school. For the full class schedule, do head over to their website for more information.

Hit a home run at an indoor baseball batting cage
Hearing the crack of the bat when it hits the sweet spot on a baseball can be most gratifying. However, baseball is quite an under-the-radar sport in Singapore, so most people don’t get the opportunity to play it, unless you join a sports team. At Homerun Baseball indoor batting cage, you can enjoy the fun of batting whenever you feel like it, with the bonus of not having to sweat under the sun.
Besides being a great stress reliever at the end of a long day, you also get a good arm and core workout from swinging the bat. 5 game tokens cost $20; for each token you get to bat 15 balls. Discount rates for members and students are available.
